Subclinical trait psychology

Assess your psychological profile

Master yourself, or be ruled by yourself.

The Dark Triad Institute is an educational resource for men who want to understand their own psychology — narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy — not as disorders, but as the spectrum of human nature. This assessment reveals your dominant archetype and the path to mastering it.

About the Institute

Clinical Credibility Matters

Dr. Mark R. Dell, Psy.D.
Licensed clinical psychologist (NJ), in private practice since 2007. Forensic experience in correctional, juvenile court, and child protective settings. Doctoral research: case-study analysis of the explosive psychopath. Clinical work centered on high-performing men — executives, attorneys, physicians, veterans, first responders, fathers, and builders.
Educational Approach
This assessment is not a diagnosis. It measures subclinical tendencies on a spectrum present in all people. The Dark Triad is your shadow architecture — the parts of yourself most worth understanding and governing.
Methodology
Built on personality science (Paulhus & Williams, Jones & Paulhus), evolutionary psychology (David Buss), depth psychology (Carl Jung), and Stoic philosophy. The assessment and report are grounded in research and clinical experience, not pop psychology.

Six Archetypes

The Six Power Archetypes

The Sovereign
Authority. Command. The Crown.
Born to lead and to be seen leading. Your drive is recognition and the weight of command. Mastered, you become the man others follow because he carries responsibility, not because he demands the room.
The Strategist
Information. Positioning. The Invisible Advantage.
You see several moves ahead. Your power is foresight: patient, quiet, exact. Mastered, you protect the people and interests in your care and build advantage that compounds.
The Hunter
Boldness. Decision. Action Under Fire.
Calm where other men freeze. You move first and feel the fear later. Mastered, you are the man who acts when action is the only thing that helps — courage with direction.
The Architect
Design. Systems. The Long Build.
You build structures that compound. Your name goes on the thing that lasts. Mastered, you create institutions and people that stand without you — legacy as contribution, not monument.
The Phantom
Composure. Discretion. The Unseen Hand.
You work without a footprint. Composed, unreadable, effective from positions no one is watching. Mastered, that detachment becomes equanimity — steady, clear, and fully present.
The Operator
Execution. Adaptation. The Mechanism.
You get it done. While others plan, you move through systems and pull results from situations that defeat everyone else. Mastered, you invest leverage instead of spending it.

Where This Goes Deeper

Understanding Yourself Is the First Step. Treatment Is Where the Work Happens.

This content is educational. For many people, that clarity is enough.

For others, it's the start of something worth working through directly. My practice works with men at every stage — executives and first responders, fathers and husbands, and young men still finding their direction and sense of self.
